Gauteng Flea Markets

If there’s one thing Gauteng knows how to do well, it’s flea markets. Rather than mass-produced, low-quality items that could be found anywhere, you’ll find yourself sorting through high-end, home-made crafts and treasured second-hand finds. And the options for flea markets across Gauteng are endless, so to get you started on the right track, here are three of the best.

3 Gauteng Flea Markets

1. Fourways Farmers’ Market (www.ffmarket.co.za)

Just entering this market is an experience in itself. Located on the original Fourways Farmstead, you walk along a flower-lined path below the beautiful pine tree canopy and through to the lawns, strewn with hay bale seats - perfect for picnics. Every one of the 107 vendors at Fourways Farmers’ Market is carefully selected to ensure every product and service is of the highest quality. Formulated on the traditional market style, stallholders are happy to engage with visitors about their products, offering samples of edible treats and making for a generally friendly atmosphere. On sale is a range of locally made cheeses, cured meats, sweet treats, jams, freshly squeezed juices, preserves and finally, beautifully handcrafted jewellery, clothing and furniture. Supporting local talent, Fourways Farmers Market features at least four new bands or artists on their stunningly rustic stage.

Where: Earth Outdoor Living Nursery on the corner of William Nicol Drive and Monte Casino Boulevard, Fourways, Johannesburg.

When: Every Sunday from 10am to 3pm.

2. Montana Family Market (www.montanafamilymarket.co.za)

This dedicated family-friendly market is the perfect space for a lazy day outdoors, enjoying live music, browsing quality retail stalls and letting the children run free. This flea market-style shopping complex boasts an incredible 500 – and more – stalls, offering you a wealth of products and services. Here you will find everything from linens and on-trend clothes, to vintage collectibles, second-hand books and even a tattoo parlour, all well laid out and easy to navigate. There is an engaging children’s play area with a full programme of weekend activities for the kids, and the stocked food zone has a variety of on-the-go food options. Lending a platform and an audience to the local music scene, Montana Family Market arranges for a great line-up of musicians every weekend. Great food, great vibes, great shopping… an all-round great family experience.

The Cowhouse has more than 42 stalls to choose from offering a variety of food, drink and crafts. There is also live music to set the mood. In addition to the weekly Cowhouse Market, the venue hosts a range of events, such as mountain bike night races, trail runs, drive in evenings and night markets.
