Sunday 18 May 2025 4:30pm to Sunday 25 May 2025 4:00pm

Fran Prins is the latest sensation in the Afrikaans music industry. He is known for his honest and deeply emotional music and lyrics. His debut single, “Hoogtyd,” is a song he wrote himself that expresses the pain, sadness and longing of a certain stage in his life. Fran wrote this song in 2022 when he was going through a very difficult time, but it ultimately became a message of hope and determination. “It means a lot to me to be able to look back now and realize that things do get better and you should never give up,” says Fran. At the age of 15, Fran started playing guitar, which sparked his passion for music.

He grew up in an era where music changed a lot, with influences ranging from golden oldies and rock & roll to the tech boom of the 2000s and the MK revolution. Artists such as Theuns Jordaan, Jan Blohm, Francois van Coke, Danie Reenwolf, and Tasche have had a major influence on his musical style, while international icons such as Bob Dylan, Kip Moore, Kings of Leon, and even The Lumineers have further shaped his sound.

Fran’s music reflects his life experiences and melancholy, and he strives to be honest and straightforward in his songs. He believes that most Afrikaans speakers will be able to relate to his music. His favorite quote, “Behind every beautiful thing, there’s some kind of pain,” expresses the essence of his art and his approach to music.
